Description & Requirements

IOM is recruiting a Chief, Field Security Operations to lead the organisation’s global field security function. This is a senior leadership post within the Office of Staff Security (OSS), responsible for risk governance, field support, operational readiness and emergency coordination across the organisation.

This role will oversee global operations centres, surge deployments, crisis response systems, and key technical platforms such as SCAAN. It includes regular coordination with other UN agencies and security partners, and reports directly to the Director of OSS.

Why this role stands out

This is a post with real global reach. It combines operational oversight with strategic planning and high-level decision-making. The role supports frontline teams while helping shape the way IOM and the wider UN system engage with risk, readiness and field delivery.

For those with a strong background in humanitarian security, this is a rare opportunity to bring that experience into a role that sits at the heart of the UN security system—improving coordination between the humanitarian and institutional sectors.

Candidate profile

  • At least 10 years’ experience in international security management with a Master’s degree, or 12+ years with a Bachelor’s
  • Strong field leadership background, ideally with both humanitarian and UN experience
  • Familiarity with the UN Security Management System is essential
  • Operational planning, surge coordination and risk analysis experience
  • Certification in SCP, HIM, SSAFE, TDC or similar desirable
  • Fluent in English; additional UN language an advantage
